Will be happy to give a medal to a helpful answer. How did the spoils system affect politics during the gilded age? I had a test with this question but i don't really get what this question is asking me. I'll be happy to provide any additional information about this question just please give me a quick (or long) explanation on what this is talking about. Thanks

Thanks but thats not quite the answer I was looking for. It has given a bit more info on my question however

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a spoils system is a practice where a political party, after winning an election, gives government jobs to its supporters, friends and relatives as a reward for working toward victory, and as an incentive to keep working for the party This affected the politics because it would keep a certain party in power and in the long term this would have a negative effect on the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal government. Hope this is more what you needed.
