This is one of the primary reasons that even the smallest companies make wearing a suit one of their requirements for their employees. The customers feel more confident in the presence of such "consultants." So, fashion is a very keen tool of manipulation while communicating, besides its importance in social class, culture, sex and gender relations."

The status communicated by certain types of clothing is momentary and inconsequential, and a person's demeanor is more indicative of a person's status than the outfit he/she wears. The move toward 'corporate comfort days' like 'dress-down Fridays' indicates a widespread move away from the constrictive idea that business attire makes one more productive or impressive to customers. More and more corporations, in fact, have no dress codes or uniform expectations. The idea that 'clothes make the man' is archaic and shallow as shown by the relaxing standards in contemporary business wear.
