Use continuity to evaluate the limit. (Round your answer to three decimal places.) lim x→5 arctan x^2 − 25/5x^2 − 25x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so it's arctan of that whole fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are you able to factor x^2 - 25 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did but when I get to finding arctan I get confused

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you simplify the whole fraction ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arctan [(x+5)/5x] Then I plug in 5 and get arctan 10/25 but my decimal seems to be wrong

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm assuming they want the answer in radian mode

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

10/25 = 0.4 arctan(0.4) = 0.38050637711237 radians

Thank you so much that was the right answer. I am not to great at cos, sin and tan things.

what kind of calculator do you have?
