A collection of quarters and dimes is worth $12.40. There are 67 coins in all. How many of each coin are there?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

q+d=67 .25q+.1d=12.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i guess and check?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

pretty much take a number you know is going to be to high for quarters and to low for dimes and then take a number you know will be to low for quarters and to high for dimes and go from there

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

i.e. 48 quarters and 4 dimes 20 quarters and 74 dimes the first one has to little coins and the second has to many so now just go with numbers between those

OpenStudy (anonymous):

39 quarters 28 dimes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

38 QUARTERS 28 DIMES

OpenStudy (anonymous):

29 dimes*

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

39*.25=9.75 28*.1=2.8 9.75+2.8=12.55 we need 12.40 so almost
