collision of a hanging mass

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

a 4kg ornamant is hanging by a 1.1m wire with it is suddenly hit but a 3kg missile travelling horizontally at 14 m/s. the missile embeds itself in the ornament during the collision. What is the tension in the wire immediately after the collision?

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

I figure that i can find the momentum before and after the collision but i'm not sure how to find it after...

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

\[m_{rocket}v_{rocket}+m_{ornament}v_{ornament}=(m_{rocket}+m_{ornament})v_f\]\[(3)(14)+(4)(0)=(7)v_{f}\]\[42=7v_{f}\]\[6=v_{f}\]using that as v(initial) for the next part i guess?\[T=(m_{rocket}+m_{ornament})(g+\frac{v_{f}^2}{r}\]\[T=(7*9.8)+\left[\frac{(7*36)}{1.1}\right]=297.7\]

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

looks right?
