I thnk the deeper meaning wol benow that they're in the "new land", they're not sure what they're going to do now but they're happy that they made it, because from what Ive learned about people going to new countries back then they didnt know what they were going to do yet but grateel they made it, since so may people would come down ill and die before they even made it there.
