Daniel could do 20 pushups when he first began his workout program. He increased the number of pushups he completed by 5 each week for 8 wk. Let w represent the number of weeks, and let p represent the number of pushups he completed. What is the slope of the line that models this situation?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

This is a linear function because it grows at the same rate week by week. If he begins his program with 20 pushups, the week is week 0, and the number of pushups is 20. At the end of the first week, week 1, his pushups went up to 25. So the coordinates, if you will, of these two points on the line, are (0,20) and (1,25). The slope is found like this:\[m=\frac{ 25-20 }{ 1-0}\]which gives you a slope of 5, which is correct, because the number of pushups he does increases by 5 per week. See how that works?
