Use "guess and check" on a calculator to determine the solution(s) to the following equations. a) (n/2)=105 b) nC3=84 c) 11Cn=330 Please explain, thanks!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

trial and error, make a guess, if its wrong adjust your guess up or down as needed and try again

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and that (n 2) represents that binomal better than a fraction

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(^n _2) may even express it as upn and bottom2

Thanks I'll try it out. Except I don't think I would have much time to keep guessing on tests because it's time consuming.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its just what the directions said to do

OpenStudy (amistre64):

11Cn is the simplest, since its something int the row, its not 11C0 11C1 11C11 or 11C10 the others are about finding the other part .... a 'halfway' trial is the quickest guessing method n C 3 = 84 ; n is not 84 but its a trial, 84C3 is bigger than 84, so half it try 42 42C3 = 11480 this is only going to take at best 7 tries ... to big, half it 21C3 = 1330, half it again 10C3 = 120, half it again 5C3 = 10 so its either 6,7,8,9 try 7 7C3 = 35 8C3 = 56 9C3 = 84

OpenStudy (amistre64):

itll take about 7 tries for nC2 = 105 les if you know if a better start than n=105
