2(x – 3) + 9 = 3(x + 1) + x

Distribute the 2 and the 3.
2x-6+9 = 3x+3 +x
Now just combine like terms.
2x+3=4x+3
If you subtract the 3's you will get 2x=4x.
So at the end x has to equal to 0.
