If the graph of y = |x| is translated so that the point (1, 1) is moved to (1, 4), what is the equation of the new graph?

To translate a graph in the vertical direction, you add a number if you want the graph to go up and subtract a number if want the graph to go down. Since you are moving the graph up 3, you simply add 3 to your equation. y=|x|+3
