OpenStudy (gorv):
u need to use qudratic formula to find the roots ..u know ??
OpenStudy (arbaz):
yes but we r asked to use discriminant method to slove this
OpenStudy (gorv):
that is we have to use
OpenStudy (gorv):
apply that
OpenStudy (perl):
the discriminant only tells you how many real roots you have

OpenStudy (perl):
what kind of roots
OpenStudy (gorv):
\[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{ 2a }\]
OpenStudy (perl):
the discriminant by itself won't tell you want the roots are
OpenStudy (perl):
the discriminant is the part under the radical sign. b^2 - 4ac
OpenStudy (arbaz):
can we solve it by completing square

OpenStudy (perl):
the discriminant by itself won't tell you what the roots are
OpenStudy (gorv):
yeah u can do that also
OpenStudy (perl):
the quadratic formula is solved generally by using completing the square
OpenStudy (gorv):
that will also give you the root
OpenStudy (perl):
its inefficient to complete the square *every* time you solve a quadratic equation
