Why did the Church see the heliocentric view of the solar system as a challenge to its authority?
Because the heliocentric model stated the Sun was at the center of the universe. The church believes since God made us, he also made Earth, and because he made Earth it HAD to be at the center of the universe. The heliocentric model basically said "God didn't make Earth because it ISN'T at the center of our universe, which meant God didn't make us, which ultimately meant God isn't real." This outraged the church. Hope that helped ^.^
That helped soooo much, thank you! Do you think you can help me on a couple more questions?
