OpenStudy (khally92):

A very long wire carries a uniform linear charge density of 7.0 nC/m. What is the electric field strength 16.0 m from the center of the wire at a point on the wire's perpendicular bisector? Thanks

OpenStudy (kainui):

Alright draw out a picture, and give it your best shot. There is calculus in your course, correct?

OpenStudy (khally92):

calculus? this is physic not calculus

OpenStudy (khally92):

but yes i have done calculus

OpenStudy (kainui):

Well the "real" way to do this is to do an integral from negative to positive infinity along this wire as it affects the single point off of the "really long ideal infinite wire". Otherwise if calculus isn't what you want, then you should look for the formula in your book/notes
