A town has population 3200 at year t = 0. Write a formula for the population, P, in year t if the town grows by 270 people per year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So initially the town has 3200 as its population right so at t = 0 P = 3200 Then the town population grows by 270 people per year, but we already have the initial 3200. We know that year is represented by t. Since t is a variable it will change depending on how many years has passed. After 1 year we have 270t where t = 1 After 2 years we have 270t where t=2, therefore 270*2 So the general formula is P = 3200 + 270t
