Shouldn't this be posted in English.
Anyway, the author used this metaphor to show that the spec of light showing is their freedom. They are all trapped in the darkness that is a lack of innovation, and an absence of thought, then the crack in the wall is his unique view, and ability to formulate ideas on his own while the rest of society is trapped in prison.
