How can graphs be created from verbal expressions?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

What do you mean..?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Like, if you are reading a math question that doesn't have a specific formula, and you have to create a graph. I think thats what its asking me.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Well, it'll tell you like: Bob has a car washing business his fee is $15 plus $5 for each additional axle on the vehicle. The total cost on one of his clients was $20. Therefore you can write an expression like 15 + 5x = 20 Where 15 is the direct fee, 5x is the price for each axle, and 20 is the total cost. You can solve this and you'll get x = 1, which means that the client had 1 additional axle.

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

And then I take the function found in the verbal expression and put it on a graph?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yeah, or you can just solve it..lol.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Or say: Tickets cost $5 for adults, and $2 for children, the total price of one bill was $52. You can write this equation: 5x + 2y = 52 Where x = # of adults and y = # of children.

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Oh okay I got it. Thanks iGreen! :D *gives a medal* :]

OpenStudy (igreen):

No problem!

Can you help me on another? I can tag you in another thread.
