What are outliers, and what is their value in understanding disease?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Outliers in this case are patients who fall outside of the normal type. For example if a 15 year old was diagnosed with heart disease they would be an outlier because they do not fall statistically with the normal patients, which would be older people. Their value in understanding disease is that hey challenge people to understand it better. Now we have to figure out why it can affect 15 year olds as well as older people. does that make sense?
