@dumbcow lol who in the real world actually memorizes the periodic table? Also this not a physics problem lol, but a chemistry one. A ionic compound generally is the combination of a nonmetal with a metal.

Be, Li and all of group 2 are all non metals.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok thanks to google i have an answer the element would need to be a non-metal in group 16 to bond with Be (group 2) but not Li(group 1)
