In general, what happens to self-esteem during adolescence? Explain why this change occurs.

Goes down.

you get loads of spots, your voice brakes, you have loads of new pressures because your becoming an adult. Your expected to get a job, a job??!! what the hell. Its awfull

self esteem goes down, for many of the reasons JamesWolf said above....plus the fact that your peers are just as insecure as you are, so they don't often bolster your self-image. Also, your focus starts to change from being strictly peer dominated to looking towards adult models. That can either help or hinder self-image.
