Which of the following is NOT a factor that controls temperature? A. longitude B. cloud cover C. latitude D. altitude
latitude i think
longitude cloud cover affects the amount of sun's rays that are reflected back into space, resulting in more or less energy trapped and therefore temperature in an atmosphere. latitude affects temperature most because the climate of an area is largely affected by the angle of the sun's rays. the earth tilts on its own axis, resulting in some regions getting hit directly by the sun's rays and some others at a slanted angle. the equator is nearest to the sun and therefore the hottest. this is also why the ice at the poles don't melt. altitude also plays an important part. air that is denser sinks, and dense air traps more heat, so air near the surface of the earth has more heat. the ground also absorbs longwave radiation from the sun, heating the surface of the earth. higher up, temperature gradually gets colder because heat from the surface cannot easily heat up the air so far away. longitude doesn't do much because its just left or right on the globe and since we know that the earth rotates horizontally, basically all longitudes get heated the same.
