A company wants to build new oceanfront housing near an estuary. The company wants to fill a saltwater marsh with dirt and cement to create ore land for houses. Why is this a bad idea from an ecological and commercial standpoint?

Basically if the saltwater marsh is filled the ecosystem would be destroyed. I don't see a bad idea from a commercial standpoint, except maybe there are cheaper alternatives to fill land such as using sand, or that land fills require some time for the fill to settle down.
