It is Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis or Advance Liver Damage is something that alcoholics need to look out for in fact 40% of people with Cirrhosis get it from alcohol. Essentially Cirrhosis is liver scarring, however when the liver scars over it doesn't retain the same functions it once had. Dementia, or really long term loss of thinking and reasoning is caused by many things, the most common form of it is Alzheimer's Disease. Long term alcohol abuse isn't generally associated with this. Rather old age and genetics are what attributes generally to dementia.
