Synthetic division is a way of easily dividing a polynomial by a binomial, using the coefficitents.

If you want to divide, let's say (x^3+4x-16) by (x-2) then we would have to solve the equation (x-2) for 0, x-2=0 x=2 Now we know that this is our "outside number" and now we can go onto the coefficients of the problem (x^3+4x-16). |dw:1414541830293:dw|

The coefficients are the numbers in the front, and in this case we didn't have a x^2 term, so we have to put a zero cause it works out that way.
