Desalinization plants remove the salt from sea water and make it usable for drinking and irrigation. Review the following statements and select the one that best describes how this technology has had a positive impact on the environment. Desalinization plants are expensive to build and maintain; however, on some small islands, where there is no fresh water, they provide water to those who need it. Without these plants people were dependent on capturing rainwater in order to survive. In times of drought, when there was not enough rain, people used to have to buy water that was imported from other areas. Of all the water on Earth, 97% is salt water, 3% is fresh water and much of this is locked up in ice. All living things need fresh water to survive. As populations grow, the demand for fresh water will increase. If humans can use desalinization plants to make the fresh water they need, more fresh water will be available for the plants and animals that need it. Some islands in the Caribbean do not have any fresh water. This has limited growth on these islands. Building a desalinization plant could provide jobs for the local people. This can make the economy on these islands more stable. Some areas by the coast are very remote and far from fresh water supplies. These areas are great places to build vacation resorts. These resorts use desalinization plants to provide their guests with fresh water. Desalinization plants will allow for more resorts to be built in remote areas along the coast.

@iGreen can you tell me?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Tell you what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anything on it, i think its B but not sure

OpenStudy (igreen):

C is incorrect..jobs for people does not help the environment.. D is also incorrect..a resort does not help the environment either. That leaves A and B..give me a second.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :)

OpenStudy (igreen):

I think it's A..B doesn't really help the environment much..it does say that animals will get fresh water..but it doesn't describe it so well..I'm not too sure though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you can you help with another one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which type of power plants generate the least amount of pollution? biomass power plants geothermal power plants nuclear power plants natural gas power plants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A right?

OpenStudy (igreen):

All of them pollute the environment but Geothermal doesn't pollute if you handle it right..if you don't handle it right it goes into the air..I'm not too sure though..I'm a math person. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lol, i seen a big 96 percent on the exam there so i thought you might be able you help :)

OpenStudy (igreen):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got a good score on your exam i siad gratz!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you were asked which type of power, generated from a non–renewable resource, has the least negative effect on the environment, you would chose geothermal power. hydropower. nuclear power. solar power. help with this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh, thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what you think that one is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (igreen):

Hold on I'm getting mentioned so much.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok lol

OpenStudy (igreen):

D is out..Solar Power is renewable.

OpenStudy (igreen):

B is also out because it is renewable.. I think it's A because Nuclear Power pollutes a lot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
