For any matrix, a constant times the matrix means that the constant is distributed to all parts of the matrix. \(k\begin{bmatrix} a&b\\ c&d \end{bmatrix} = \begin{bmatrix} ka&kb\\ kc&kd \end{bmatrix} \) I know this is a bit late, but I hope that helps.
