What is the area of the triangle? A.22 7/12 B.59 3/8 C.112 1/24 D.118 3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wrong subject

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sue me

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

This belong in the math section. :) This is History.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i screwed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey, we're trying to help u out

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Oh... I see you ship Jack Frost and Rapunzel... Interesting ship. They started Elsa and Jack a while back. <- wow that rhymed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btw like your pic

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Also, don't worry, no one is going to sue you or anything. :) If you want, I can try to help you and then you can go to math. Is that okay? :)

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

To be able to answer this, you need to know how to find Area. This picture might help. Also, i think that your question may be missing something. Did it also have a picture of a triangle that you had to look at to solve?

|dw:1414605769327:dw|

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Oh, I see. Good. Do you know how to start out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont you have to turn the mixed numbers into improper fractions?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

|dw:1414605895046:dw| Can you do that on your calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i dont think i can do that on my calculator

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Thats one way of doing it. Do you prefer that? It would make inputting the fractions easier. Good thing you caught that.

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

To convert an improper fraction to a mixed fraction, follow these steps: Divide the numerator by the denominator. Write down the whole number answer. Then write down any remainder above the denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i pefer to change them into improper fractions

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

can you do that and tell me what you get for each? Start with 8 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25/3

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Good. Now do the other :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17/4

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Great! Now multiply them. :) Do you know how to multiply fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just mutiply straght across right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*stright

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Sort of. This may help: Multiply the numerators together. Multiply the denominators together. Simplify the fraction. Convert the improper fraction (if it is improper) to a mixed fraction answer. To do this divide the denominator into the numerator finding the quotient and remainder.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

425/12

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

25x17=425 3x4=12 You get 425/12 now you have to simplify. If you do, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is where i got stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause i dont think they both can be divided by the same number

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

See this picture. It explains it to you. :)

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

You are correct, they can't be divided by the same number, because they are as simplified as they can get!

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

This was only multiplying the Base and Height. Now you have to divide 35 5/12 by 2. Do you think you can do it on your own?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i forgot about the divideing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i think so

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Okay. Let me know what you get, and if you need help. I can wait a bit if you'd like. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant think of any thing 5 and 12 can be divided by. also am i supposed to divide the whole number?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

To divide the mixed number by two, you have to: Change each mixed number to an improper fraction. (Which means we're back to 425/12) Multiply by the reciprocal of the divisor, simplifying if possible. Put answer in lowest terms. Check to be sure the answer makes sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok im confused how do i mutiply the reciprocal by the divisor?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

i'm sorry, I have an emergency going on in my house now, I got to go. Sorry that I can't walk you through further. Leave a medal if you thought this was helpful. Also, if you don't know how to do something, google the definition and the steps to do it. :) Bye!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye thx
