1. Who made the birthday cake ? (Who is a subject pronoun like he,she, and we. " Who " is used to ask what person does the action or which person is a certain way.) 2. Whom are you going to invite ? ( Whom is an object pronoun like him, her, and us. " Whom " is used to show which person receives an action.) 3. The rain affected Amy's hairdo. (affect means to influence) 4. The sound effects were amazing. (effect means as a result) Most of the time, affect is a verb and effect is a noun. 5. Mary likes hiking, swimming, and bicycling. OR Mary like to hike, to swim, and to ride a bicycle. Parallel structure means using the same pattern of words to show that two or more ideas have the same level of importance. Do not mix forms....this would be incorrect : Mary likes hiking, swimming, and to ride a bicycle.
