Related rates. A spotlight on the ground shines on a wall 12 m away. If a man 2 m tall walks from the spotlight toward the building at a speed of 1.3 m/s, at what rate is the length of his shadow on the building changing when he is 4 m from the building? (Round your answer to one decimal place.) I have no idea how to set this up. Please help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well related rates so calculus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have you tired drawing a triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and marking the sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well yes but I don't know how that effects the shadow size on the well in relation to the mans speed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was a worksheet given to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no this is math homework online

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. no image?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to solve for M

OpenStudy (anonymous):

show me how to set up the related rates equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I drew my own image for it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set the equation up 2m+1.3m=12m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2m+1.3=8 divide by 12m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what related rates are?
