Uhh you could look this up??? But they were passed for segregation purposes. More specifically they were pass to limit blacks from voting by requiring them to have all these kinds of requirements to vote. It's just a racist screwed up set of laws, that southerns thought were a good idea because they didn't like the idea of emancipation.
