2x^100 + 6x^85 − 3x^38 + 3x^17 − 5 divided by x + 1 using polynomial division?

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Long division?

OpenStudy (aum):

2x^100 / x = 2x^99 The next highest power after x^100 in the problem is x^85. So there are missing powers and we need to use coefficient 0 to fill the missing exponents. This will result in 0x^99 + 0x^98 + .... + 0x^86 So the quotients will have alternating signs: -2x^98 + 2x^97 - 2x^96 ..... Follow the same logic to complete the rest.
