So how exactly does OS index posts? I've noticed that all the urls use hex, but what does it mean? Is it just the number of the question in the database? Like, would http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/544e7acde4b0f8f2501af809 be the 6074927972093065458th post? Just wondering, because I really wanna work on an API for OS.
That is, if I recognize it, a unique ID that the Database generates. It looks a lot like that. So I do not think it will be very useful in showing progression.
Well, it looks like just about every post starts with a 54, and then the next bit is usually a little bit above previous questions (mine starts with 5452, the other one was 544e and that was 3 days ago), so I thought there might be some sort of relation there.
I checked if 54 was only for OS Feedback but it is for other sections too.
Interesting.
@Preetha, am I right about anything so far? :p
Aha.
To be honest, I doubt Preetha looks too deep into the technical side. She gives them direction for technology, not specifics.
found out something
then again that's only a difference of 4 so idk
yeah, I just thought that maybe she'd know something about it even if it's not much :p
mit subjects seem to have a different number for the beginning.
mit subjects are also a lot less popular than this section tho, so that could be because all the posts are incredibly old (if my theory is correct, at least)
you're right
I checked mit biology and the lasted of 6 days ago had 54
but as I started looking at even older questions in the subject, the 54 changed to 53
*latest one I accidentally typed lasted
@Preetha is reading this post.
Hello Preetha. Were you actually called bombdiggity as it says on about us page for OpenStudy.
*? sorry for punctuation.
http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53aaa136e4b0a819ab12768f http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53889218e4b0db48f0cf064d
woah. didnt know hartnn could speak urdu (or hindi i think)
Well, since he is from India...
What does "Bombdiggity" mean?
You are the bomb, dig it? You are dabomb dig it. You are dabomb digity.
How much is "pachaas hazaar" as I can only count perfectly to 13.
I've also noticed a recurring e4b0 in there for my posts, and it looks like the b0 makes 82, which is my SS. I'm gonna check other posts to make sure I'm not insane.
k yeah that has nothing to do with ss
I didnt get the relationship between b0 and 82
hex to decimal
b0 is the hex and 82 is the decimal
I think I understood you: b0 is hex, and translated to decimal, it makes 82
do you think your old posts have a different number because when you asked the question, you had a lower SS
well I meant I checked other people's recent posts and it was inconsistent anyway, I'm off to bed. I'll look into things more tomorrow.
Hi all. Poopsie, I honestly have not looked into this numbering business...(-: But I encourage you to keep exploring it. Scientific curiosity is a good thing. And someone did call me bombdiggity and it was such a cool compliment, that I kept it!
That I will :> Maybe @c0decracker or @shadowfiend (if he's ever still on) will be able to offer some information.
"Pachaas hazaar" would be 50,000.
When did Indian currency come into the picture. @ParthKohli
currency??? so pachaas would be 50.
btw. this is numbers, not currency.
@Preetha, do you think you could get a dev to tell us anything? :>
So thanks to inspiration (and a direct link lel) from my favorite programmer on OS (@Opcode), I started getting somewhere with a .net api. Really nothing special, but it could evolve into something.
oops, the tag didn't work. I'm sure he sees it tho :p
@Opcode
must have been @opcode)<--the )parenthesis
@opcode Still works.
