Find value of x!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=y+1 2x+3=3y+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitute... 2(y+1)+3=3y+3 solve for y...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2y+5=3y+3 y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug y back in and solve for x 2x+3=3(2)+3 x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would i do it for this one??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Same exact way just set each similar side equal to each other. Solve for one letter, and substitute them in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y-3=y-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, set the short side= to the other short side. And set the longer sides equal to each other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you please show me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y-3=2x-1 x+3=y-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for one letter... y=2x+2 substitute it in... x+3=2x+2-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x... x=2 substitute it in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i plug in??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2+3=y-1 solve for y y=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok! thank you
