Helen went to the grocery store to buy potatoes. The store charges $1.04 for each pound of potatoes. On the way out of the store, Helen picked up a gallon of ice cream at a cost of $4.88. If Helen spent $11.12 at the store, how many pounds of potatoes did she purchase? Assume tax is included in the given price.

the answer is 6. what you do is take the total ($11.12) and subtract the $4.88 for ice cream and you get 6.24. then you take 6.24 and you divide 1.04 to get your answer. which is 6
