Jim works for $9.50 per hour. His regular hours are 40 per week and he gets time and a half for overtime. Last week he worked for 46.5 hours. How much money did he earn last week? please show all work so i know how you did it. THX :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If he gets $9.50 per hour, how money does he get for working 46.5 hours?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

so he did 6.5 hrs of overtime. if all he did was 40 hrs, then we would just do 40(9.5) but since he did the overtime, we would need to do 40(9.5) + 6.5(9.5 x 1.5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much money*

OpenStudy (aripotta):

once you do the math, you'll have your answer. do you need me to explain it more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i got this 40 + 6.5 = 46.5 hrs $9.50 x 46.5 = $441.75 earned last week

OpenStudy (aripotta):

that's what he would get if he didn't get paid extra for his overtime hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how much extra for overtime?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

the equation i typed up takes into account that he gets paid more for those 6.5 hrs he didn't need to do 40(9.5) + 6.5(9.5 x 1.5)

OpenStudy (aripotta):

the question says he gets paid time and a half for overtime, so that's why it's 9.5 x 1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh kk i get it

OpenStudy (aripotta):

glad i helped :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help with one more?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

sure, if i can. just open up a new question thread
