OpenStudy (aripotta):

hello :) just a couple suggestions. 1. ability to edit a comment 2. ability to delete other people's comments on your question thread to reduce spam

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

i agree with your 1 st comment but your 2nd comment was not just MORE CONVINCING !!

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

When you apply 2nd statement, think that there are many bad users who don't like to reach OS at higher level or you can say that GLOBAL LEVEL. So,they have a chance to do that when you apply statement no. 2 and think that they can misuse it. EXAMPLE :- You just post a question. and think `xy` is a bad user.If i comment an ANSWER to your question ,then `xy`user misuse his power(statement 2) and he can delete my all comments.

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

Better IDEA :- ---> ability to delete other people's comments on your question thread to reduce spam==== BUT ONLY FOR WHO POST QUESTION not for all users. :)

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

and statement no. 1 ,there is NO PROBLEM with this.

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

Thank you @AriPotta for raising this questions again. I think ADMINS can now take step on this !

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

@Preetha @thomaster

OpenStudy (aripotta):

but what if i post a question and then two people just randomly start having a conversation on my thread?? it happens like all the time for me

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

you have the power to delete such comments `Only those have powers which have posted their questions`

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

hope you understand. @AriPotta

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

not for everyone !!

OpenStudy (aripotta):

ah yes, i see now. that would make life so much easier

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

lol....COMPLETELY SIMPLIER AND EASIER (so smooth not any rough surface) and if you have a SMOOTH SURFACE ,there is not friction at all.

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

Compare :- \[\large \bf Smooth--->\color{red}{Life}\] \[\large \bf Famous--->\color{green}{Open~Study}\]

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

\[\large \bf Friction--->\color{blue}{Bad~Users}\]

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

hahahahah....

OpenStudy (aripotta):

lol well thank you for your comments :) hopefully these things can be implemented

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

we can only HOPE !!

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

we have only this POWER ^^^

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

LOL

OpenStudy (perl):

@Preetha I am responding to the thread above. i would be against people being able to delete other peoples comments, this could be used against other users who they dislike. Suppose that person A dislikes person B for whatever reason, and person A posts a question and deletes all of persons B valid comments to his thread. That seems wrong to me. I would rather people should set aside their differences and help each other, or critique each other rationally. I think thats what makes openstudy great, that you cant censor good reasoning. Of course if someone is using obscenity or spamming mindless chat in someone's post, that is different. But I would be against giving users the carte blanche ability to delete other peoples comments as they see fit. That aside, I would like to be able see users edit their own comments. It seems inefficient having to correct your mistakes in a thread as you go along. But I do like that you can edit your question. So it seems natural to extend that to editing your posts in a thread. A workaround is to delete your comment and start over, but its time consuming.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

is there a way to stop people from spamming your post? that seems to be one of my main concerns. the only way i can think of would be to add the ability for the asker to delete someone's comment. i do see why it would be a bad idea, though i'm still wondering if there's anything else we can do??

OpenStudy (aripotta):

maybe if i could ban someone from commenting on my thread?? but i guess people could still abuse that :/

Miracrown (miracrown):

There is a good and a bad side to everything.

OpenStudy (perl):

@AriPotta yes, i think you can notify an admin if you believe someone is spamming on your thread.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Awesome suggestion but about #1 You could just say ok... and later edit your reply to say the correct answer people will give you the medal for answering first and giving the correct answer... So yes it could be abused I had asked for this before but that was the reply I got. :(

OpenStudy (preetha):

So there is a + and a - aspect. And you are all smart enough to understand and represent both. I am looking for a solution that will protect the thread from nonsense and yet prevent misuse. Open to bold and creative solutions.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Maybe users with high SS should be given the power... Like all 90's and above... And for the posts to be deleted atleast 3-5 of them have to agree for it to be deleted..

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

It would be helpful especially if you are doing a tutorial, posting owls, and posting other things such as a biography.

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Heres my suggestion If someone makes a tutorial, a moderator, admin, or even amby can give permission to that thread to delete any comments That way if permission can be given and taken away, spam will be reduced, and a margin of error will be reduced as well

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

^^ And those specific people should mainly give it to tutorials..

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I would go with @camerondoherty

sammixboo (sammixboo):

I agree with your first idea. Just now I was doing a long LaTeX code, posted it, and then I was reading through it and I misspelled some words and wrote words I didn't want to write D: So I had to start over :'(
