Q. A train is moving along a straight horizontal track. A pendulum from the roof of one of the carriage of the train is inclined at 4 degrees to the vertical. Calculate the acceleration of the train.

OpenStudy (surry99):

do you know how to draw a free body diagram for the pendulum?

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

ma= -mgsin0 0= degrees Solve for a

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Sorry, but @oOKawaiiOo 's answer is not correct. As @surry99 said, you must draw a fbd for the situation.

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

oops I didnt read all of the question.....I just saw pendulum...... Studying at he library since 5:30 AM is taking its toll

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

np, it happens to all of us :)

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

Sure does ! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I don't know how to draw the fbd.

OpenStudy (surry99):

ok, takea look on line or in your book and see if you can figure out how to draw the FBD of the pendulum mass. A FBD is just a diagram showing all the forces that act on an object.
