can the bond order be negative if yes please give an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not sure but i do not think it can sorry:(

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

WELCOME TO OPENSTUDY ^_^ yes i think according to molecular orbital (MO)theory bond order can be negetive and it will take the molecule towards unstability helium(He) can be an example (though i'm not sure ,i've read them a long time ago) :)

OpenStudy (surry99):

From what I recall for MO theory , if a bond order is zero or negative, the species does not exist. If the bond order is 0.5, the bond may exist but will be unstable and go on to react further in order to become stable
