NEED HELP :? Paul works for a company that deals in paints and dyes. He is paid a fixed monthly salary plus 15 percent commission on monthly sales over $20,000 If Paul manages to achieve total monthly sales of $x, which is over $20,000, the function f(x) representing Paul's monthly sales over $20,000 is given by a. x-20,000 b. x+20,000 c. 20,000-x d. 20,000/x If x is the sales amount over $20,000, the function g(x) giving Paul's commission is a. 0.15-x b. 0.15x c. 15-x/100 d. 0.15/x The function g(f(x)) representing Paul's commission on monthly sales above $20,000, where x is Paul's total monthly sales amount, is given by a. x-0.15(20,000) b. (20,000-x)/0.15 c. 0.15(x-20,000) d. 0.15x-20,000 (is long so i had to keep typing in the comment section):/

Hmm the wording is a little confusing... So `x represents the amount above 20,000`. So the total amount would be that `x` plus the first 20,000 that wasn't counted. b. x+20,000. Make sense? :o

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Maybe I"m reading it incorrectly :( Sec, the wording is so weird..

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yah I read that backwards. `x represents his total sales` (and we're assuming this number is greater than 20,000. So if we only want to know what he made beyond the first 20,000 then we have to subtract 20,000 from the x. a. x-20,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok so what do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's ay for example, paul's monthly sales are $25,000, he will be paid for the figure above $20,000 therefore, the amunt he will be paid commission on is x- $20,000 or $25,000-20,000 in this case.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So for this next part, x means something different. It's no longer the total sales, it's the sales over 20,000. And they want you to calculate the commission. He get's 15% commission, yes? So, 15% of x is his to keep.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 0.15 x (x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the total monthly amout would be 0.15(x-20,000)..?
