Use the table of the function f(x) = x4 - 4x to answer this question: What is the average rate of change from x = -1 to x = 2?

hartnn (hartnn):

average rate of change formula is \(\Large \dfrac{f(b)-f(a)}{b-a}\) here, a = -1 b =2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opps the chart didnt load right, haha. x f(x) -2 24 -1 5 0 0 1 -3 2 8

hartnn (hartnn):

know how to get f(-1) and f(2) from the chart ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so I plugged in the numbers to the formula. i got f(2)-f(-1)/2--1

hartnn (hartnn):

right 2-(-1) is just 2+1 =3 how about f(2), know how to get it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :) umm, no I dont :/

hartnn (hartnn):

f(2) is the value of f(x) when x =2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do i do next?

hartnn (hartnn):

find f(2) and f(-1) from the chart!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or wait -1?

hartnn (hartnn):

the final answer ? why are u in so much hurry? :) sis you get f(2) and f(-1)

hartnn (hartnn):

**did you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

hartnn (hartnn):

what did u get them as ?>

hartnn (hartnn):

any ideas ?
