This is a real math question that I need some help with! Which graph best represents the function y = the square root of the quantity x plus 7? (graphs in comments)

OpenStudy (naga447):

Just pick a couple values you like that are easy to compute. So if you pick x=1, then that means y=sqrt(1)+7 which means y=8. So look through the graphs, if the point (1,8) isn't on the line, then you know it must be wrong.

OpenStudy (naga447):

Okay! I'm new to square values and stuff. I wasn't sure if you had to do something different with them to find the answer! thanks!

OpenStudy (kainui):

Yeah, generally you only want to pick points that are easy, and of course you can't pick negative values (yet). So x=4 is a pretty good choice since sqrt(4)=2 while sqrt(3) is probably a bad idea. Try to make it as easy on yourself as possible you know? haha

OpenStudy (naga447):

yeah, I get it!
