Gibbons v. Ogden (1824) Gibbons v. Ogden (1824) Chief Justice John Marshall U.S. Supreme Court 1824 Gibbons v. Ogden is considered a landmark supreme court case on the issue of the Interstate Commerce Clause. Aaron Ogden was given an exclusive license to operate a shipping business within the State of New York. He sued a man named Thomas Gibbons, who ran a competing shipping business between New Jersey and New York City, claiming that Gibbon's operations in the State of New York were illegal. Gibbons was given permission to operate his business by Congress. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Thomas Gibbons. John Marshall wrote the opinion of the court, saying that the commerce clause includes not only "commerce," or the trade of commodities, but also that it gives Congress the right to regulate navigation as well. I found this but I don't recommend copying word for word. paraphrase it.
ok but I have looked at this already... the problem is that I don't understand it and how it answers the prompt
if you look up the McCulloch v. Maryland, Gibbons v. Ogden, or District of Columbia v. Heller that how you get your answer
@kyley_bear The purpose of the prompt is to explain hoe each of these is import, although you can only choose one. It's asking what happened, what made this significant, etc.
