What is the solution to this equation? 7x - 12x - 5 = -45 + 15

OpenStudy (cicilybailey14):

x=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Collect all the variables, in this case x on one side and the values on the right side then you can solve for x.

Leave all the X's on one side and leave all of the numbers on one side. When you combine the X's, it will look like 7x-12x. This equals -5x. Leave that on one side. Now the regular numbers. Move -5 to the other side. Then when you combine them, it will look like -45+15+5 which equals -25. Then you have -5x=-25. Divide -25 by -5 to isolate x. Then you'll have X=5.
