How was Crispus Attucks significant during the Revolutionary Era? Attucks was one of the colonial leaders who served on the Committees of Correspondence. Attucks was a free African American living in the southern colonies among enslaved workers. Attucks agreed to defend the soldiers on trial for killing five townspeople in the Boston Massacre. Attucks became a symbol of the colonial cause of liberty after dying in the Boston Massacre.
