Mallory s famous reason to climb Mount Everest was THAT IT WAS THERE Would (That it was there) be a noun clause or adverb clause?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I answered this already. It is a dependent clause. A nouse is a person place or thing, and the phrase "that it was there" does not fit any of those. An adverb modifies a phrase. For example, an adverb would be "the very hot pizza....." and "very hot" is the adverb.

So it is neither of those. It is a dependent clause, because that phrase by itself cannot be a sentence. It DEPENDS on the remainder of the phrase or sentence to be complete
