type of energy transfored into chemical energy by plant

OpenStudy (mstoldegon):

Photosynthesis takes "Light" (natural or artificial, is Electro Magnetic Radiation or EMR, a form of energy) and uses it as the needed energy to convert CO2 & H2O into O2, H2O and carbohydrates. That was the simple answer but what happens inside the Chloroplasts (the green cells in most plants) is that the plant supplies H2O drawn up from the roots, the atmosphere supplies CO2 and "Light" supplies the energy. The chemical reaction produces O2, H2O and C12H22O11 (sugar or carbohydrate). The carbohydrates are transferred to the roots for conversion into other carbohydrates for storage or new growth. These carbohydrates are the "chemical energy" stored by the plant. TMI ?? ;)
