how do i stretch/shrink a graph with slope? for parent functions?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what's the equation?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\textit{function transformations} \\ \quad \\ \begin{array}{llll} \begin{array}{llll} shrink\ or\\ expand\\ by\ {\color{purple}{ A}}\cdot {\color{blue}{ B}}\end{array} \qquad \\ \\ \qquad \downarrow\\ y = {\color{purple}{ A}} ( {\color{blue}{ B}}x + {\color{red}{ C}} ) + {\color{green}{ D}}\\ \end{array}\)

@joe0001 radical(.5x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there a easier way to stretch/shrnk a function without using a table ?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

sorry site is lagged

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup xD

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... a multiplier to "x" would either stretch it or expand it depending on what the parent number would be say 0.5x if you give that parent... something smaller than 0.5 say 0.25 0.25x <---- that'd EXPAND it or make flatter if you give it something bigger...say 1.0 1.0x <--- that'd SHRINK it, or make it more vertical

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause i was able to use the slope trick for 3 sqrt (x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i do it for numbers smaller than 1?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what are trying to do anyway? I mean.. .what's the original exercise
