I need help with solving multi-step equations

OpenStudy (perl):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me please with |dw:1415107608476:dw|

OpenStudy (igreen):

Is this it? \(-4x - 21 = 27 - 84\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep perfect

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(-4x - 21 = 27 - 84\) First we simplify: \(-4x - 21 = -57\) Add 21 to both sides: \(-4x = -36\) Now can you divide -36 / -4? @ballers5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how did u get 84 it was negative 8x sorry im confused

OpenStudy (igreen):

You put -84 there..it was part of the original equation, wasn't it?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh, it was -8x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres the equation negative 4x -21=27 -8x

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(-4x - 21 = 27 - 8x\) Okay first we add 21 to both sides: \(-4x = 48 - 8x\) Now we add 8x to both sides: \(4x = 48\) Now can you divide 48 / 4? @ballers5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answers 12

OpenStudy (igreen):

I got 48 when I added 21 to the other side with 27. And 21 + 27 = 48.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay ....... got it so it is 12 or -12

OpenStudy (igreen):

It's just 12..because 48 / 4 = 12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can I ask u a couple more things please

OpenStudy (igreen):

Sure, just close this question and open a new one.
