What might happen to a cell if the ratio of volume-to-surface area is too large? The cytoskeleton would block movement of materials. Signals may not reach their destinations in a timely manner. The protein synthesis mechanism would be interrupted. The DNA in the cell may not replicate properly. The organism may not be able to consume enough water to fill the cell.
