MEDAL!!!!! Please check my answer! 1. What is the area of the trapezoid? The diagram is not drawn to scale. A.14cm^2 B.20cm^2 C.38cm^2 D.56cm^2

OpenStudy (jessiegonzales):

My answer A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry to say but your wrong, the answer is D

OpenStudy (jessiegonzales):

may you explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah sure, there are two formulas to find the area of the trapezoid, the first is (B1+B2) times height and then all divided by 2, while the second one is 1/2(b1+b2) times height, i used the first one, and btw b=base, so i plugged in base 1 which was 9, and then to add base 2 too that you have to take the 9 shown in the picture and add 10 to get the whole thing because there are two parts missing and we know that one of those parts is 5, and that since they are congruent that equals ten, which gives you 19 in all, then i add this and then that equals 28, then i multiply it by the height which is 4, to get 112, and then finally divide by 2 to get 56

awesome thanks :)
