like a monkey could climb trees and all, but i guess if you think about how fast they can both go then its a different story

Hmm that's a tough one. If the monkey could stab the lion before the lion pounced on the monkey, the monkey would win. However it seems more likely that the lion, with its size and strength will be able to pounce on the monkey and knock the knife away before the monkey could stab the lion... :o

In a fight though you are assuming its one against one, so no trees are around, because if trees were around the monkey wouldn't even need to fight lol
